Professor Ricardo de Moraes is 45 years old from Valinhos, São Paulo, Brazil. He came to the United States to teach Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. He has taught in GB Lake Ellsinore, GB Anaheim Hills and at the Headquarters in Irvine, which are all located in California. He is currently head instructor at the Gracie Barra North Austin BJJ academy in Austin, TX. In Brazil he practiced other martial arts as well, starting at the age of 4 doing Judo. He practiced Judo for 12 years, but although he practiced different martial arts, it was Brazilian Jiu Jitsu that captured his heart at the age of 16 and showed him the way to live. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu has taught him mental balance, discipline, concentration, how to live healthy and how to live well in society. He gives credit for much of his training success to his Professor Carlos Alberto Liberi, 6th degree black belt, who is the head instructor of Gracie Barra Campinas, Brazil and Regional Director of the state of São Paulo for the Gracie Barra Association.
With the tools he learned in BJJ he went to college and graduated in Physical Education and Business Management. Gracie Barra is a lifestyle for Professor Ricardo de Moraes and he has been enjoying teaching others this way of living for more than 20 years. In addition to being a 4rd degree black belt in BJJ he also has a brown belt in Judo and has been a competitor for many years. Some of his titles include: 8 times champion of the state circuit (São Paulo, Brazil), Brazilian Champion, and placed in Pan American Championships and World Championships.
